This pond was constructed in 2002 from the spoil removed from the
levelling of the site were the new indoor school was erected. During the
past 100 years, the UK countryside has lost almost 70% of its ponds, The
creation of new ponds has never been more important for pond wildlife. We
have stocked this pond with Tench, Orfe, Roche and Common Gold fish. Wild
Moorhens, Coots and Mallard as well as Swallows and House martins who pick off
insects from above the water surface and use muddy areas for nest
building. Also a frequent visitor to the pond is a Heron who feeds in the
shallow margins, as the pond is over 8ft deep in the middle there are plenty of
places for the fish to hide so we do not bother scaring the Heron off Frogs,
Toads, Newts, Grass Snakes and 1000s of mini beast also live in and around the
pond, but some of the prettiest residents are the Dragon fly's and May
fly's. It also provides a place for Voles, Rabbits and Mice.
The Best time to see the fish is late afternoon.
